New Blog and News

Another Saturday at Flashback Gaming in Sevierville, TN, which will be the last there, but will get back to this later.  Started with some Dicemasters, played my standard Storm-Dick deck.  Played Dennis, who played a deck he just threw together on the spot.  Granted he knows more of the ins and outs of the game which is evident by the success of the thrown together deck.

Game 1,  I won, managed to get 10 damage through on round 3 and then just a few more here and there.  Just had to wait until the number of blockers was right to finish him off,  W 20-0.

Game 2, Dennis won.  Firestorm's ability that does an additional damage for each type of die he has fielded, so basically he's doing 1-5 damage a round without attacking.  Nice ability but will have to find something to counter it.  Also, the Dwarf ability completely nerfed my Storm ability.  Basically, the Dwarf can choose a fielded die and make the card as if it were blank per each Dwarf fielded.  Another very nice ability, unless you are facing it.  L 7-2

Game 3, Dennis won. Dwarf didn't hurt this time around but Firestorm was definitely the MVP.  L 6-0

I have found a few cards that will at least lessen the effects if not negate them altogether, Joker Clown Prince and one of the Loki's can't remember but will have it for the next blog post.

Played a game or 2 of the old Star Wars mini game, don't remember the lists but it wasn't close, Dennis beat me bad.

Now onto the big news..... We are moving back to West KY!!  Been in East TN for almost 2 years, and while it was nice and definitely a beautiful area with the Smoky Mountains, its just time to move back home.  We have a few reasons for the move but won't get into them here.

I appreciate all the follows, but keep commenting on the blog. It at least lets me know that someone is actually reading this stuff. LOL.  Next post should have another mini book review, just haven't decided which one to do yet.

A try at something new...

A new thing that I am going to try and do on the blog is once a month or so I plan on putting up a book review more than likely a novel at least somewhat hobby related, ie Star Wars, D and D, etc.  Luckily, I have a few books that I have already read so there is at least a bank of ready to go reviews.

First off I think I will go with the Star Wars novel of Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn.  I haven't enjoyed a book in a very long time and this was it.  It is what I had always pictured Han and Lando being outside of space, ie on the ground.  Anything you can imagine of Han doing in space, just picture it on land, not flying but smuggling, thieving and breaking and entry.  It was classic.  They assembled their crew, not all goes according to plan and even some dissension among the ranks, but man it was a great read.

I was warned, which I will also pass along to you, DO NOT READ THE LAST PAGE UNTIL YOU GET THERE!!!!  If you do, it will ruin the book, you'll see why once you get there.  But just wait until you get there, it will be worth it.

The first picture is the main cover, the bottom one is the LE cover.  Also, if you plan on purchasing this one, get the one with the 'prequel' in it.  The prequel will give some background information on the group.  It helped with knowing a little more about who is who.

Long time ago there was this blog happening....

WOW!! I knew it had been a long time since I had posted but no idea it was over 3 1/2 years. My apologies.  A few huge changes have occurred, none of which I will go into here, but things seem to finally be settling down.  So back to the reason you follow, or at least used to, gaming.

                   

                                           

           

         

         



Shameless plug for my FLGS.  They have a wide variety of comic back issues, action figures, board games, X-Wing, MtG, FoW, RPGs, and some old school platform video games.

It had been a few months since the last time I got to go out to the local game store, so I thought that would be as good of any other reason I could think of to start up the blog again.

The first game I played was a quick and easy game of X-wing, I lost which is no big surprise to anyone, but I missed playing and had a good time.  I flew a squad consisting of Night Curse, Soontir Fell, and Boba Fett, I forget which upgrades they had but not matter.   I flew against an Old Crow and 2 new X-wings, also don't remember their upgrades.  It went longer than it probably should have but I wanted to at least get one kill.  And that didn't happen either, LOL.

My next few games were Dicemasters. I really love this game, I don't buy regularly by any means and by far most of my stuff is from the first few sets.  But I truly enjoy this game.  I fielded my standard Storm dickish deck. Or at least that's what my bro Dennis calls it, in jest.  I think I went 2-2, I tried a new tactic in a few of the games, it worked once and not the other 2.  But that's in the details.

Finally, my last hour or so, went to learning Force of Will CCG. I really like it as well, but will take a few more games to get the newness down.  For the most part it is like MtG and several other CCGs, but has enough difference in the cards as far as characters and themes to keep my interest.  I lost to my bro Dennis, who was learning as well but still had fun.  And hopefully will be able to make it to the regular FoW nights at the store, but that is also the same night as X-Wing, so we will see which I play more of.

Contest Winner and Loot

Well the contest has come and gone, with Narceron being the winner!!  The way I did the choosing was I took all the subscribers and assigned them a number based on when they became subscribers.  Then went to random.org and got the number.  Easy as that.

Now to see what the loot is.  I contacted Narceron to see what he played, and turns out he did play an army that I had stuff for.  So with out further wait, here's the loot.

All I ask is that you not sell it.  If you cant use it or dont want it then give it away to a new player that's thinking about getting into the game and hobby.

Yes, a bunch of Orks stuff for 40k. Some is 3rd edition stuff but Orks is Orks and free is free.  The new contest will be announced in a few months.

Well it appears that I got too busy once again to keep posting every Thursday, but oh well.  I will try and keep to posting on Thursdays just not sure if it will be every one.

This week I have something a little different, something that I have been wanting to try for awhile now.  Giving a review of games and RPGs.  This is my first shot at it so bear with me.

This review will be of the newest release for the WuXing: The Ninja Crusade RPGs from ThirdEyeGames.  If you are not familiar with the game or company, I strongly suggest you check them out.

Truth and Lies is the fourth book in the WuXing line.  The others are the WuXing rulebook, Firebrands, and The Land of Seed and Blossom.

Just a quick excerpt form the Truth and Lies book.

Only a thin line exists between truth and lies, both powerful weapons if wielded with finesse and fearlessness. We cut our enemies down with our words, our ideals and our finely sharpened weapons.Never look back and stay true to your creed, no matter the evil you may bring upon others.

This book goes into the background of the Metal aspect clans, which is my main liking of the system.  The world itself is phenomenal.  When I found the system, I was looking for a martial arts RPG and stumbled upon it at Gencon a few years ago when working in the Studio2 booth.

Truth and Lies goes into the regions of the Metal aspect clans to give the world more detail and to learn the inner workings of the Will of Iron and Hidden Strands of Fate clans.  It also introduces new wushus or fighting styles into the game, Silkworm style and Deer style.  And brings 2 new clans into the mix, the Sons of Steel and Veiled Ones.  Not to mention an brand new adventure for the system that will easily meld right into your on going campaign.

If you are looking for a martial arts RPG or just a new game to try out, I highly recommend WuXing.  The background of the land is what really had me hooked after the first few pages and the lats book did the same.

Hey guys,
Sorry about the last couple of weeks, I have been really busy and just couldn't get around to posting. 

But I have came to the conclusion that I am going to get rid of the majority of my 40k armies, keeping the pieces that I like and that will make a decent sized force if I decide to play again.  This one will probably be a short post, just still pretty busy with the holidays and all.  I wish I could get past the lack of motivation to start painting again.  I have yet to paint anything since I posted about starting back up again.  I think its a 2 fold problem, 1 being the lack of motivation and 2 the hectic schedule of the end of November and most of December.

But come January there will be painting to do.  I am pretty sure that the new Flames of War starter set is coming my way for Christmas along with some Warmachine and Hordes items, possibly even a few Ogre items to flesh out that army.  Time will tell.

But I do hope everyone of you has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  Nothing new to report in terms of hobby, but do have a few things to talk about.  As some of you know, I don't like the new 6th ed rules for 40k.  No biggie, I am not going to hurt GW's sales forecast by not buying anything new.  And I am not going to bash the rules or the game, I have met a lot of good friends due to the game and had lots of fun playing it.

But after much thought and deliberation I am going to give up the game for good.  Now what to do with my armies?? I have a decent sized force of Blood Angels, which was a pretty stout list in 5th, and a nearly huge CSM army which was my first army when I got into the game.  The Blood Angels are definitely leaving either as a sale or as a trade, haven't decided where to post them and what I really want for them.  And a very small starting sized force of Orks. This leaves me with my CSM.  Every time I think about getting rid of them, I get them down to write up the inventory and start remembering past games and all the fun I had playing them which leads to me putting them back up on the shelf until the next time.

So I am at a crossroads, I know I will prolly never play them again but still want to keep them for old times sake.  Which makes no sense, when I could at least get something for them either in trade or $$.  I did manage to thin the ranks of them a little back over the summer when I sold some of things I never used anyway, like 2 Landraiders and the CSM termies (never liked the sculpts and had plans of chaosifying some normal termies).

If I go the $$ route and sell the armies, then what?  I will just end spending the $$ on something prolly bills, and have nothing show for it.  If I go the trade route, then what do I want and really need?  I mean I have a decent sized OK army for Fantasy,  a Menoth, Khador, Legion and Circle armies for WM/H, and it appears that I will be getting the Flames of War starter set for Christmas, so do I try and trade for things to expand those or try to get a new army for Fantasy or even try some new game system (which I don't need much less have the time for or extra $$ to start some system).  Or do I try and get more board games, which do actually get used form time to time via family game nights and at friend's houses.  I just don't know what to do.

And then the way out there scenario, what if when 7th ed comes out, I happen to like those rules?  Do I keep the CSM for that and just start over?  I doubt that I will start over anyway, when I quit something it tends to be for good.  I mean I used to have a complete library of BattleTech books and several 100s of minis, and then things happened and I sold them all.

I don't really know what to do, other than I doubt I will ever play 40k again, but not sure that I want to get rid of my CSM, which are just taking up space.  Any ideas or comments would be helpful.

Don't really know if this is a blog post or actually a vent, if you will.  Not a vent in terms of ranting and raving but just getting a few things out and off my chest.  But whatever it is, at least now I will have possible prizes for the current contest and future ones.
